Since April 23, 2017, hundreds of protesters have blocked traffic on the road leading to the oilfields in Tataouine and erected tents at a sit-in outside el-Kamour, demanding the allocation of 70 percent of jobs in the petroleum sector for residents of the state and 20 percent of the petroleum income.
