POSITION SUMMARY
Working within the project Operation team, the estimator role translates customer requirements, drawings and specifications to create the lowest achievable installation cost estimate. They also record all assumptions, exclusions and specification deviations for inclusion within the proposal.
They will use approved standard Estimating processes and tools (HIET) to create estimates using standard Work Breakdown Structures for subsequent import directly into the (SAP) Field Financial tool.
Primary responsibilities include:
– Assistance with the creating highly professional technical and commercial proposals suitable for presentation to the highest levels of management;
– Reviewing scope for all opportunities and proposals;
– Assisting the sales team in understanding and assessing customer’s requirements;
– Selecting the proper combination of hardware, software, equipment, materials and services that will deliver the highest value to the customer while supporting overall Honeywell business objectives.
– Support of Project Managers, when requested, in the calculation of costs and sell prices for project Change Orders.
They should posses the ability to communicate technical concepts and solutions to internal and external customers; e.g. conducting site walks, accurately reviewing customer specs, and with the ability to identify opportunities, risks, and resources required to achieve results within the proposal cycle.
Must have the ability to multi task and produce desired results in a deadline driven environment. Proposals include technical scope, commercial estimates, deliverables, schedules and terms and conditions and other variables to meet customer requests and expectations. All proposal work must be completed according to Honeywell professional standards.
Sr. Estimator will develop relationships with General Contractors and other contractors’ estimating teams to partner in budget pricing and working towards teaming for targeting large projects jointly with various contractor
and estimating teams.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Estimating Skills:
– Design jobs for the purpose of providing Sales estimates. This would include value engineering, developing the design to a level that will enable robust product, labor and sub contractor estimating
– Following a win participate in the official handover by consolidating all documentation in a timely and accurate manor as per the document management standard.
– Develop best strategic supplier BOM options for selection in estimates.
– Participate in obtaining Sub contractor & vendor quotes.
– Ensure use of most current standard library of designs to keep the cost of delivery as low as possible.
– Document assumptions, exclusions and specification deviations for inclusion within the proposal.
– Obtain regular feedback from operations to ensure estimated internal labor hours accurately reflects actual requirement
2. Supply Chain:
– Work closely with Supply management with the request for quotation process for contractors and vendors.
– Provide input and assist with the evaluation and selection of contractors and vendors
– Obtain feedback from operations related to contractor performance.
– Work with the remote engineering teams to ensure we maximize the use in support of this productivity initiative
3. Estimating Management support:
– Assign jobs in Region as required by PML
– Responsible leading the use of engineering consistency, use of engineering standards and tools
– Responsible for driving estimate quality, accuracy and timely production
– Work with sales to assess estimating productivity, win rates and facilitate feedback.
– Represent business when required to provide feedback or contribute to requirements definitions or testing of new estimating standards, tools or processes.
4. Risk Review:
– Support the Risk Review and Booking process as well as other Sales support functions to allow maximum Sales Reps time with prospect customers.
5.Health, Safety and statutory compliance:
– Comply with all required policies.
– Comply with Health & Safety Policies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education level and/or relevant experience(s)
– BA/BS degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
– Five plus years experience estimating, selling, project implementation or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Knowledge and skills (general and technical)
– Sr. Estimator will possess mastery over all applications in HVAC, Fire, Security and Networked advanced solutions ( ex. DVM, sizing, architecture, configurations, etc.).
– Be knowledgeable for new products and applications as they are introduced.
– Be proficient with Standard Hardware Drawing tool set for submittals. Re-use is the focus here.
– Excellent PC skills including strong MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook Knowledge.
– Good verbal and written communications skills.
Other requirements (licenses, certifications, specialized training, physical or mental abilities required)
– Working knowledge of electronics, HVAC, fire and security products.
– Design engineering experience (hardware and software) a plus.
– Documentation tools expertise (submittals, drawings, etc).
– This position requires the ability to understand customer requirements/restraints and offer a cost-effective solution to the service needs.
– A working knowledge of existing hardware installations and upgrade requirements to current technology.
