The National Fund for Farmer’s Mutual Plan (CNMA) plans to engage end in « micro-insurance », a new product tailored to the needs of farmers in rural areas, the Fund’s Technical Director of Insurance Cherif Benhabiles said Wednesday in Algiers. The rural population, estimated at nearly 14 million people, i.e. 40.5% of the population in Algeria, is « devoid of any sort of financial or social protection which makes it vulnerable to risks and low solvent with banks. This induces need for such insurance, « he told reporters on the sidelines of a workshop on the spread of this product.
